UNESCO Director-General convenes special senior management meeting to examine contingency plan in the face of protracted financial crisis

Joint Inspection Unit of the United Nations System commends UNESCO’s results

The Joint Inspection Unit of the United Nations System (JIU) has recently published a “Review of the acceptance and implementation of the JIU recommendations by UNESCO”, indicating that UNESCO is one of the top performers among 28 JIU organizations.

Director-General met members of UNESCO Oversight Advisory Committee

On 29 June 2016, the Director-General met with the members of the UNESCO Oversight Advisory Committee (OAC). The OAC is a standing committee, comprising external independent experts, that advises the Director-General in fulfilling her oversight responsibilities. The Committee also reports annually to the Executive Board. The meeting with the Director-General followed an extensive review by the OAC from 27 to 29 June of key oversight matters of the Organization including risk management, budgeting and financial reporting, IT security, programme management, evaluation, oversight, ethics and accountability.

Director-General opens 1st meeting of the UNESCO Task Force on the 2030 Agenda

On 29 June, at UNESCO’s Headquarters in Paris, the Director-General, Ms Irina Bokova, opened the first meeting of the UNESCO Task Force on the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, where she highlighted the important role of the Task Force in ensuring sharp, effective and coordinated support by the Organization to countries as they take forward, implement and review the 2030 Agenda.

UNESCO has launched the consultations for the next programme and budget with the implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development as the priority. UNESCO will make full use of its multidisciplinary approach and several important steps already been made.

UNESCO strengthens its Institute for Statistics to implement 2030 Agenda

On 3 June, the Director-General of UNESCO made a presentation of the role and future of the UNESCO Institute for Statistics in the implementation of 2030 Agenda. She mentioned that UNESCO will develop the activities of its Institute for Statistics to reinforce the capacities of follow-up, control and the sharing of statistic results.
